In 500 BC, which was the time of Cyrus the Great, the Persian Empire witnessed its highest peak of growth. As it can be seen in the map, ancient Persia covered a lot of what we know today as Europe, most of central Asia, from the Arabian Sea to the boarders of Russia, and from what is now Iran to the Indus River in India.
Persia was one of the most Mounties countries in the world. Mountains helped the empire both economically and geographically. The mounts made it hard to attack the empire. It also gave them a trade advantage, because only they knew routes through the mountains which were used to transport goods. Also in those high places, plateaus formed which helped the country's economy by providing space for animals and agriculture.
The first empire was most of what is today Iran and parts of Afghanistan. The area has an average climate, not dessert and not cold. Dry grass, small plants and dirt mainly cover the place, but parts of north very fertile. Western and eastern get rain from time to time but the northern part gets the most rain in the area. Parts of Northern Persia get snow some times. Rare snow can also be found in central Persia in winter. It snows heavily in the Zagros and Abroz mountain ranges too.
